Our candles

Our candles

Each of our candles is hand made in our home and studio in Deptford, south east London. The composition of our candles are:

  • Oil: Premium fragrance oils. Vegan, paraben free, with almost all being phtalate free.
  • Wax: Plant based wax. We use 100% GMO free soy wax, and in some candles soy and coconut wax.
  • Wicks: Cotton wicks.

The oils

Oils are central to scented candles, and when developing candles you usually start by deciding whether to use fragrance oils or essential oils. There are pros and cons to each oil type and the decision usually comes down to the type of product and collection you want to develop.

I made a very clear decision from the start to use fragrance oils to give me more creativity in the products and scent experiences I could offer (like how we enjoy perfumes that can generate a myriad of olfactory results). Further, as a dog parent, I wanted to stay away from essential oils where some may be harmful to pets. But again there is absolutely no right or wrong here, it's up to each candle maker what oils to use.

The wax

Candle wax is usually either paraffin (petroleum) or plant based. I was a little horrified when I discovered that many of my favourite premium candle makers used paraffin in their candles. Sticking with plant based waxes was a no brainer for me.

When it comes to plant based wax, the most common options are soy wax, rapeseed oil, coconut oil, beeswax, or sometimes a combination of these waxes.

My candles predominantly use 100% soy wax only, manufactured in Sweden, fully GMO free and carefully sourced. This is the wax that I've found most effective in generating both a cold throw (scent when not yet lit) and hot throw (scent generated when lit).

For some oils I found a combination of coconut oil and soy wax to perform best. Coconut oil tends to help carry the scent further. The wax I've used can be found on each product page.

The wick

I only use cotton based wicks for each candle.

Each candle weighs 220 grams (the net weight of the wax and oil), where you can expect roughly a 40h burn time.
